He began his career as a member of the musical collective Swing Mob in the early 1990s. As a solo act, he signed with Epic Records to release his 1996 debut single, “Pony”. His fifth, Back II da Basics (2005) peaked within the top ten of the Billboard 200 and served as his final release with Epic; he signed with Warner Records to release his sixth album A Man’s Thoughts (2009), which performed similarly despite mixed critical reception. The rapper’s 2003 summer debut single, “Right Thurr”, put him on the musical map as a good-time rapper who specialized in catchy, club-friendly beats and simplistic lyrics delivered in a sing-song, nursery rhyme style.

Chamillionaire

Dubbed “the Mixtape Messiah,” Houston’s Chamillionaire arrived late as a major-label artist during his city’s 2005 takeover of mainstream rap — the Top Ten Sound of Revenge, released during November that year, followed albums from , , and former Color Changin’ Click partner  — but he had already built a loyal following outside the South and received significant print coverage. Originally part of Swishahouse, he switched to Paid in Full, where he and  collaborated on 2002’s Get Ya Mind Correct — an album that sold 100,000 copies. Prior to inking his deal with Universal, he founded the Chamilitary label and began grooming the careers of brother  and . “Ridin’,” off The Sound of Revenge, reached the top of the Billboard singles chart and was later nominated for a pair of Grammy Awards. but it was the duo’s 2003 team-up with Lil Jon — “the King of Crunk” — that brought them nationwide
success. The party anthem “Salt Shaker” was a massive club and radio hit and soon had the TVT label
chasing the duo to sign. They did, and their first album for the label, Me & My Brother, yielded two more
crunk hits, “What’s Happnin!” and “Naggin’.” The same year the duo appeared on Britney Spears’ album
In the Zone and her television special of the same name. In 2004, TVT released the remix-filled My
Brother & Me with a bonus DVD of the group’s videos. USA (United State of Atlanta) appeared in the
